While it’s rare, there are times when a hard blow to the face or other form of oral trauma can potentially damage a tooth. Sometimes this can be a minor problem that chips or fractures tooth enamel. Yet there are some extreme cases when the damage penetrates deep into the tooth, causing trauma to the root and nerve. A telltale symptom of a problem this severe includes heightened sensitivity and strong pain.

In some cases, Dr. Taylor Goggins can repair the tooth with a root canal. If the damage to the root and socket are severe, a root canal might not be a viable course of treatment. For a tooth in this dire condition, they might recommend a total extraction.

After a few weeks, your gums will have fully healed and they can help you understand your dental restoration options. One of the fastest methods for replacing the tooth is with a dental bridge. This is single piece of dental work that replicates the full function and appearance of the broken tooth. The replacement tooth is fused to a pair of crowns that are anchored on abutments that are formed out of the two neighboring teeth.

Your dentist will then use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from each tooth to form a pair of post-like abutments. This creates a small, protective sheath that houses the healthy pulp and root of each tooth. Temporary crowns will then be secured over each abutment to protect them.

A detailed impression will be made of the abutments as well as any other corresponding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab to help guide the technicians as they produce your new bridge.

When your new bridge is ready, a member of our staff will call you to schedule a second appointment. The temporary crowns will be removed and your new bridge will be cemented into place.

If you have suffered a badly damaged tooth, you should call Denver Restorative Dentistry at 303-586-1019 to schedule an appointment regarding a dental bridge in Broomfield, Colorado.
