If you have trouble opening and closing your mouth full, you are not alone. Many people exhibit this symptom, which is caused by issues with your temporomandibular joints, or TMJs, in your jaw. If these joints are damaged, you are susceptible to TMJ disorder. At Denver Restorative Dentistry we offer treatment for our patients in Broomfield, Colorado, who suffer from this often painful condition. Let’s take a closer look.

— If you have been diagnosed with TMJ, you will want to halt the damage by avoiding certain behaviors. This could include biting your nails, chewing gum constantly, and eating hard foods that can stress the jaw joints.

— If your TMJ disorder results in pain or swelling, there is help for you. Treatment might include using heat packs for pain or using ice packs to reduce swelling.

— You can practice certain forms of yoga, or even biofeedback, to help you with any stress and anxiety which might be the cause of your TMJ disorder.

— If your TMJ is painful to your jaw, you might be suffering from the effects of bruxism. This sleep grinding behavior occurs while you sleep as you grind or clench your teeth due to stress. This will in time worsen your TMJ disorder.

Dr. Taylor Goggins and our team at Denver Restorative Dentistry have a variety of treatment options to help reduce your TMJ, including the use of an oral appliance to protect your jaw while you sleep. If you would like to know more or schedule a consultation with our team, please call 303-586-1019 in Broomfield, Colorado, today. We look forward to providing you with the relief you deserve!
